What is PST to HST Conversion?
PST to HST conversion helps you translate time between Pacific Standard Time and Hawaii Standard Time zones. PST is UTC-8 in winter and becomes PDT (UTC-7) during daylight saving time. HST is always UTC-10 and never observes daylight saving time changes throughout the year.

Convert Time Between Pacific and Hawaii
If you ever need to schedule a call between California and Hawaii, or you're just curious how far apart those time zones really are, this handy calculator is here to help. It’s designed specifically to convert between Pacific Standard Time (PST/PDT) and Hawaii Standard Time (HST), so you get the right local time on either end - no guessing, no confusion.
Why use a PST to HST time converter?
Time differences between these two regions can be a little tricky, especially once daylight saving kicks in. While Pacific Time shifts an hour forward in spring and back in fall, Hawaii doesn’t change at all. That means the time gap isn’t consistent all year, and that’s where this tool steps in.
Whether you're planning a meeting, hosting a webinar, or coordinating travel times, knowing the exact time across zones saves everyone time - and headaches.
Here's how it works
Pick a date and time
You’ll start by entering the date and time in the input section. By default, the tool assumes you're working in Pacific Time (but you can switch it to HST if you're starting from there). Use the calendar and clock pickers to plug in exactly what you want to convert.
Choose your starting time zone
There’s a dropdown that lets you pick either Pacific Standard Time (PST/PDT) or Hawaii Standard Time (HST) as your starting point. Once that’s selected, the tool knows which way to convert.
Click “Convert Time”
When you’re ready, hit the “Convert Time” button and you’ll get an instant result showing the equivalent time in the other zone. You’ll also see additional details like the full date, time difference, and whether daylight saving is active.
Need it faster? Use the smart buttons
There are a few buttons built in to speed things up:
- Swap: Reverses the direction - so if you were converting PST to HST, it flips to HST to PST.
- Now: Fills in the current time from your selected time zone and converts it instantly.
- Reset: Clears all fields and resets everything to the default settings.
Customize your experience
Automatic conversion
If you turn on the “Auto Convert” checkbox, the calculator will instantly update your result as soon as you change the date or time—no need to click the convert button.
Daylight saving awareness
This setting helps the calculator know whether Pacific Time is in standard or daylight time. It’s turned on by default and should stay that way unless you have a very specific reason to override it.
UTC offset display
For those who like to see time zone offsets explicitly, the “Show UTC Offset” option adds that detail to the display. For example, you’ll see PST as either -08:00 or PDT as -07:00, depending on the date you select.
12-hour or 24-hour format
Click the “12 Hour” button at the bottom to toggle to 24-hour time, if that’s what you prefer. It updates the display instantly, and the setting applies across both live clocks and converted results.
Common questions people ask
Why is the time difference sometimes two hours, sometimes three?
Hawaii never changes its clocks, but Pacific Time does. During daylight saving (roughly March to November), Pacific Time is one hour ahead of its usual offset, which increases the gap to three hours.
What happens if I don’t enter a date or time?
If either field is blank, the calculator won’t run. You’ll just see placeholders in the result area until you provide both a date and a time.
Can I use keyboard shortcuts?
You can. Press the spacebar to convert time, "S" to swap zones, "N" for the current time, "R" to reset, or "F" to toggle between 12- and 24-hour formats. These shortcuts are great when you’re juggling multiple time checks.
Does the tool convert in both directions?
Yes. You can start in Pacific or Hawaii time - it’s totally up to you. Just pick the right option in the dropdown or use the swap button to switch quickly.
Keep your schedule lined up, no matter the coast
Whether you're catching a call with someone on the Big Island or making sure a meeting doesn’t start before your coffee's ready in LA, this time converter helps you stay in sync. It does the math for you and shows exactly what you need to know, right when you need it.
