Methodology: Current pollutant concentrations are sampled from WeatherAPI for up to 400 large cities; US AQI values are calculated from PM2.5 using EPA breakpoints.
Why Is the AQI So Low in These Cities?
Lower AQI scores indicate lower measured PM2.5 pollution and generally lower health risk. A low PM2.5-based score does not rule out a local problem with another pollutant, so the table also shows supporting particle data.
Frequently Asked Questions: Cities With the Lowest US AQI Right Now
Which city has the lowest AQI right now?
Among the major cities we track, Novosibirsk has the lowest current PM2.5-based US AQI at about 8 (as of September 15, 2026).
Does a low AQI mean every pollutant is low?
Not necessarily. This score is calculated from PM2.5; ozone, nitrogen dioxide or coarse particles can still be elevated.
