About Rabi' Al-Awwal

Rabi' Al-Awwal is the third month of the Islamic calendar and holds a special place in the hearts of Muslims worldwide. It is the month that witnessed the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who was sent as a 'Mercy to the Worlds'.

Significance & Historical Context

Rabi' Al-Awwal is not just about the birth (Mawlid); it is also the month of the Hijrah (migration) to Medina and the month in which the Prophet (PBUH) passed away. It is a month that encapsulates the entire life-cycle of the Final Revelation.

The theme of this month is 'Mahabbah' (Love). Scholars state that love for the Messenger is a requirement of faith. True love is manifested through 'Ittiba'โ€”emulating the Prophetโ€™s character (Akhlaq) and following his guidance.

Recommended Acts

  • Fasting on Mondays, as the Prophet did (saying, 'That is the day on which I was born').
  • Studying the 'Shama'il'โ€”the physical and character descriptions of the Prophet (PBUH).
  • Increasing the recitation of 'Durood' (Salawat) throughout the day and night.
