About Sha'ban
Sha'ban is the eighth month, positioned between the sacred Rajab and the holy Ramadan. The Prophet (PBUH) noted that this is a month people often neglect, even though it is when the 'Annual Record of Deeds' is raised to the Lord of the Worlds.
Significance & Historical Context
Sha'ban is the month of preparation. It is the time of 'Tazkiyah' (Purification). Historically, the verse commanding Salawat was revealed in this month, and the Qibla was changed from Jerusalem to Makkah in Sha'ban.
If Rajab was for planting, Sha'ban is for 'watering' the soul. Without the consistent worship of Sha'ban, the 'harvest' of Ramadan may be thin. It is an intensive training ground for the heart and body.
Recommended Acts
- Increasing voluntary fasts, especially on the 'White Days' and Mondays/Thursdays.
- Reciting the Quran more frequently to 'warm up' the eyes and heart for Ramadan.
- Seeking forgiveness from family and friends to enter Ramadan with a heart free of malice.
