Laylatul Qadr (27th Ramadan)
Significance, History, and Observed Dates
The 'Night of Power' or 'Night of Decree' is the most valuable night in existence, described by Allah as 'better than a thousand months' (Quran 97:3).
Spiritual Significance
It is the night the Quran was first sent down from the Preserved Tablet (Al-Lawh al-Mahfuz). Worship on this single night is equivalent to worship for over 83 years.
Lessons for the Believer
- Seek it earnestly: The Prophet (PBUH) said to seek it in the odd nights of the last ten days — consistent effort is rewarded.
- The power of Dua: When asked what to say, the Prophet taught Aisha (RA) one simple supplication for forgiveness — quality over quantity.
- Itikaf resets the soul: Seclusion in the last ten nights strips away distractions and forces a full return to Allah.
"The Prophet (PBUH) said: 'Seek it in the odd nights of the last ten days.' (Bukhari). When Aisha (RA) asked what to say on this night, he taught her: 'Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul 'afwa fa'fu 'anni' — O Allah, You are Forgiving, You love forgiveness, so forgive me.'"
Common Customs & Traditions
Itikaf (spiritual seclusion in the mosque), whole-night vigils, deep personal supplications, and staying awake until Fajr.
