What causes the change of seasons?

Quick Answer: Seasons change because Earthโ€™s axis is tilted. As Earth orbits the Sun, this tilt causes different parts of the planet to get more or less sunlight at different times of the year.

Earth is tilted about 23.5 degrees from its orbital plane. This tilt means sunlight hits the Northern and Southern Hemispheres differently throughout the year.

When the Northern Hemisphere tilts toward the Sun, it gets more direct sunlight and warmer weather, creating summer there. At the same time, the Southern Hemisphere gets less sunlight and experiences winter. Six months later, the situation reverses.
