Command-line interface
World time from your terminal
The Time. Now CLI is a dependency-free Python command that calls the public JSON API. Query any IANA timezone, search zones, resolve IP time, or check API health.
Install
mkdir -p ~/.local/bin
curl -fsSL https://time.now/fr/developer/cli/download -o ~/.local/bin/timenow
chmod +x ~/.local/bin/timenow

Requires Python 3.8 or newer and uses only the Python standard library. If ~/.local/bin is not on your PATH, run it as python3 ~/.local/bin/timenow.

Commands
| Command | Purpose |
|---|---|
timenow time Asia/Tokyo | Show current time and offset for an IANA timezone. |
timenow zones --search America | Search supported timezone names. |
timenow ip | Detect the calling computer's public-IP timezone. |
timenow ip 8.8.8.8 | Look up an explicit public IP address. |
timenow health | Check API availability and contract version. |
Structured output
Add --json before or after the command for scripts and automation:
timenow time America/Vancouver --json
timenow --json health
The JSON fields match the Time. Now API response schema, so terminal scripts and web integrations can share the same parsing logic.
Configuration
Set TIMENOW_API_BASE to use a local, staging, or self-hosted compatible endpoint:
TIMENOW_API_BASE=http://127.0.0.1:5000/developer/api timenow time UTC
The source is delivered as one readable Python file, making it easy to audit before installation.
